Chefs put together a ridiculously awesome summer cookout menu

For Thursday nights’ Ultimate Summer Cookout, the chefs are going wild with a menu you’ll never see at the neighbor’s backyard cookout. Jacques Larson of Wild Olive and Obstinate Daughter is bringing pork and peach kabobs; grilled tomato, mozzarella, prosciutto, and radicchio kabobs; pasta salad with shrimp, artichoke, and parmesan; and grilled marinated vegetables. Graham Dailey of Peninsula Grill is making grilled shrimp and lobster rolls with fresh basil; sweet corn cucumber, red onion, and tomato basil vinegar salad; and grilled yellowfin tuna cilantro gazpacho. Summer cookout series retooled and rescheduled

The summer cookout event scheduled for July 9 at Básico with Jacques Larson has been canceled in order to support the food and beverage community’s fundraising dinner being held that night. We encourage everyone to purchase tickets to the A Community United event (https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-community-united-tickets-17479766452). Basico’s poolside event has been retooled and rescheduled for Aug. 13. Mixson Grille brings Mixson community together to donate 50 percent of sales on July 2

The Mixson community was saddened to learn that a Mixson Grille employee lost two members of his family in the tragic shooting at Mother Emanuel AME church. To honor Gerald Mitchell’s loved ones and all those lost, the Mixson community is coming together to raise money and make a substantial donation on his behalf to A Community United Fund, which will disperse the money raised equally among the victim’s families. Summertime and the living is easy, right? To get in the swing of summer, Chef Bryan Cates has invited three local chefs to take part in a monthly cookout series at Mixson Bath & Racquet Club.               Básico is breaking out the five dollar deals for America’s favorite pseudo-Mexican holiday. On Tuesday, May 5, diners can order from a special $5 menu of nachos, tacos, and frozen margaritas. Chef Bryan Cates will be creating two tacos and a Cinco de Mayo nacho plate just for this celebration, which is sponsored by Cuervo. Mixson Bath & Racquet Club Open House

Did you know that Básico is located within the Mixson Bath & Racquet Club? Ever wondered what happens on the members’ side of the restaurant? The club will be hosting a spring open house on Saturday, April 18 from noon-3 p.m., and potential members are welcome to drop in for a tour of the facilities. Chef’s Tasting Dinner

On January 23, Chef Bryan Cates will host a multi-course chef’s tasting dinner. Guests are invited to come at their leisure to enjoy a multi-course meal featuring fresh flavors and creative preparations. Limehouse Produce Citrus Challenge

Winter means citrus, lots and lots of citrus. Local purveyor Limehouse Produce has encouraged chefs and mixologists around Charleston to put some of their freshest produce to use including navel oranges, oroblanco, ruby red grapefruit, kumquat, satsuma mandarin oranges, blood oranges, hamlin oranges, clementines, limes, pummelos, and meyer lemons.
